Having finally go my hands on my recently purchased C11 Makira Elite, I have to say I'm pretty impressed. Firstly we should discuss the packaging, to say the box is huge is an understatement, its an occasion just getting into the watch which sets an excellent tone.
I should also explain that I live in Canada and shipped the watch to the UK to coincide with my Wife returning home for a family visit, she bought it back over for me and was literally stopped at the airport security due to a "suspicious package" which turned out to be the watch, she was made to empty her bag, swabbed for explosives and pretty seriously questioned (an FYI just in case anyone else is planning this).
Due to the watch selling out during the fathers day sale and needing to coincide the delivery with my Wife's trip, I ended up getting a watch without a CSOC certificate at a reasonable discount. so a Ti elite CSOC for the same money as a Makira Pro, big thanks to Wera in customer services for sorting this out.
At this point I should also let you know that I own a Rolex GMT Master and Omega Speedmaster so the watch has some tough competition and I have to say at the price point compares very favourably.
So to the watch itself, it is a striking design, I really love the yellow on black and find the whole layout reminiscent of WW2 plane rev counters! The watch is very light based on its size and it wears well, its a little larger than my other two "quality watches" but comparable to the G Shock I wear for day to day activities. I have to say I also like the rubber strap, it has a nice elasticity to it. The fit and finish are up there with my more expensive watches at a fraction of the cost. Its my new favourite and will put the other watches into semi retirement.
Great overall experience and happy with the the way that Customer Services helped me out.
My new favorite Chris Ward watchReview by Mark Stouse
- OK, I am in a real predicament. Over the past year, I have purchased several high-end Chris Ward watches like the Regulator, the Jumping Hour, and others. I just bought the C11 Titanium Elite COSC, and WOW! It is the best one yet. I love it. It fits great on the wrist, and it is LIGHT, LIGHT, LIGHT. I also have matched it with an atomic clock every 12 hours since receiving it, and the time-keeping definitely merits the COSC certification. To sum, I'll say this -- buy it, and you'll be thrilled.
Even better in the flesh!Review by CTR_Paul
I ordered one of these in the Chris Ward nearly new sale, so the chances are the timepiece I now own was either sent out to press for review or had some imperfection, I'm guessing it's the former as the watch is spot on and I'm really picky!
I was somewhat cautious of spending a considerable sum on a brand which isn't that well know, but after a really good experience ordering a Damasko watch I thought I'd give Chris Ward a go too, and boy am I glad I did.
The watch is COSC certified, and it really is very accurate, putting all my other automatic movement watches to shame, bar my Omega Seamaster which the C11 is about on a par with accuracy wise. That's no mean feat given one cost vastly more than the other.
Quality wise the watch is beautiful, and I can't fault it really. It's not got the absolutely stunning finish that you'll find on an Omega or Rolex, but it's no where near the cost either, I paid about 10% of what a Sub costs! Finish wise it's certainly on a par with most of the Tag Heuers I own, and that's not bad considering a like for like Tag would be in the £3k ball park.
I swapped the strap from rubber (as I dislike rubber straps) onto a NATO band, which is a lot more comfortable. I've only fairly narrow wrists (one of which is thinner due to years of wearing watches!) but the C11 is fine, and it comes up a good bit smaller than pictures suggest. Anything over 6.5 or 6.75" and you'll be fine.
Overall I've had a very good first experience of Chris Ward, and I might... maybe... be back for a Typhoon as I'm a sucker for aviation watches!
